The Center for the Advancement of Teaching (CAT) supports effective and innovative pedagogy across the disciplines. CAT staff collaborates with faculty, teaching graduate students, and administrators to identify instructional goals and provide the tools to achieve them. Based in the Office of Faculty Resources, the Center offers a regular schedule of events and workshops in addition to individualized consulting services.
Programs & Services
We offer members of the NYU community practical resources to enhance classroom effectiveness and stimulate learning:
Teaching Development Programs
— Each semester, we facilitate a number of programs for the NYU teaching community. Our regular panels, presentations, and workshops cover a wide variety of teaching and learning issues and are presented by experts on teaching from NYU and around the country.
Confidential Teaching Consultations
— We offer confidential feedback services to all NYU faculty and teaching graduate students. Instructors may meet with a consultant to discuss teaching-related issues or request a class observation with feedback targeting their individual needs and goals.
The Office of the Provost and NYU IT are producing a series of pedagogy videos, or "TeachTalks," for global instructors. Each TeachTalk features an instructor from New York or one of the University's other portal campuses (in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai) or global sites discussing a topic such as active learning, how to incorporate local resources into courses, how to teach with technology, and how to teach within an interactive classroom. As videos become available, their links will be posted on this page, as well as on the NYU's Opportunities for Global Site-Based Faculty web page.
