Established in 2001, the Center for Teaching Excellence supports and nurtures
effective teaching and learning at New York University. The Center promotes an
ongoing, university-wide discussion about teaching and learning matters, striving
both to facilitate and contribute to that conversation, and provides practical
resources to members of the NYU community to enhance their effectiveness in the
classroom and laboratory. We seek primarily to treat teaching as serious
intellectual work that is integrally related to, and supportive of, the research
conducted by faculty, and to think of college courses as windows on, and
expressions of, the way faculty define and practice their disciplines and inter-
disciplines.
The Center offers a range of services and programs to the scholarly community at
NYU. The expanding menu to the left will help you explore our current offerings.

Changes at the Center
Whitney Steen, the CTE Administrator, has been promoted in recognition of her hard work and dedication,
particularly during the last year of transition at the Center.
Jennifer Piatek has joined CTE as administrative support for the Spring semester. Having formerly worked in Wagner and SCPS,
Jennifer brings good knowledge of NYU to the Center during a time of expansion.
Alexandra Dimitri, Ph.D. will be joining CTE in Spring 2008. An award-winning teacher
while a NYU TA, Alex will be coordinating global activities for CTE.

This Month at The Center
Programs for the second half of Spring 2008 are now open for registration. CTE
is proud to offer a special three-part workshop series on “Engaging Global Student Diversity
in the NYU Classroom” on April 2, 4, and 14. Co-sponsored with the Office of International
Students and Scholars (OISS) and the Center for Multicultural Education and Programming
(CMEP), this event examines student diversity as a way to help faculty create more
inclusive teaching. Click here
for a complete list of programs, or click the "Workshop Registration" button above to sign up.
During March and April, we are also actively seeking feedback about CTE’s programs and
services from all NYU faculty and graduate students who teach. We are organizing focus
groups, convening a CTE Advisory Committee, and have created a brief online survey to
help us understand how to serve you better in the future. Please click
here to complete the survey.
