NYU Welcome 2024 New International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation is intended for all F-1 and J-1 international students beginning their first semester in an NYU program within the United States. The Office of Global Services provides International Student Orientation in two parts. Both parts of the orientation are required for all new international students in F-1 or J-1 status at NYU. We recommend that you have your passport, I-20 or DS-2019, and I-94 record (if you're currently inside the United States) with you when you attend these sessions. We won't collect them, but we will discuss each of these documents, and you'll find it useful to have them in hand as we go through the session.

Looking for more information on getting acclimated to NYU? Check out all of our pre-orientation sessions designed to give incoming international students and their families an opportunity to become familiar with the processes and procedures associated with being a student at NYU.

Part 1: US Immigration Requirements Training

The US Immigration Requirements Training is a self-paced online module that can be completed at a time most convenient to you. Ideally, you should complete this training before you arrive at NYU. While going through the training it's helpful to also have our Orientation Index at the ready. In both the US Immigration Requirements Training and the International Student Meeting we'll refer to the index often as a resource for much of what's covered in orientation. You may also want to bookmark the Orientation Index for future reference.

The US Immigration Requirements Training should take around one hour to complete. If you can't finish the entire training in one sitting, your place will be saved.

Part 2: International Student Meeting

Part two of orientation is the International Student Welcome to NYU Meeting. In this meeting you will meet other students and discuss topics like work, travel, and adjusting to life at NYU. This meeting will give you plenty of chances to connect with other students and review important concepts, both new and already reviewed in the online training.

This meeting best serves students who will be physically present in New York for the next upcoming semester. You only need to attend one session. Find your NYU school session below and attend one. If the session does not work for your schedule, plan to attend a make-up sessions also listed below.

Who Does NOT Have to Attend International Student Orientation

  • Dependents of F-1 and J-1 students
  • International students returning from a leave of absence from NYU
