The NYU StudentLink Center offers free Notary services to the NYU Community.  Click for more details.

The following locations provide a Notary Public for a fee. It is suggested that you call for an appointment or to find out when the service is available.

Note that most banks provide a Notary and it may to be at no cost if you have an account with the respective bank.

Legal Assistance

NYU does not provide legal services for students, however, there are a number of resources within New York City that can help you find an attorney and/or provide you with limited legal advice. The following are provided as a resource only. NYU has no affiliation or recommendation for any of the listed services.

    The world's largest free legal directory with over 167,000 New York Lawyers profiled on their site (more than any other directory).
  • LawHelp.org

    Provides low and moderate income people find free legal aid programs in their communities, and answers to questions about their legal rights. The website provides links to resources and legal aid by topic.
  • Legal Aid Society
    The Legal Aid Society handles approximately 275,000 client cases each year with a legal staff of more than 800 lawyers and a para-professional and support staff of approximately 600 through a network of neighborhood and court-based offices in 25 locations throughout the five boroughs of New York City. The Civil Practice also operates hotlines to provide additional services to low-income New Yorkers.

Immigration Resources

The NYU Office of Global Services is able to assist with matters related to F-1 or J-1 student visa and F-2 or J-2 dependent visas. Students do not need to contact an immigration attorney for questions related to these visa categories.

OGS is not able to advise on visa matters beyond post-completion practical or academic training. If you intend to work in the United States after this period, or if you need advice on other immigration matters not related to your status as an F-1 or J-1 student, you may need to find an attorney who specializes in immigration matters. Immigration Case Advice & Representation

A project of the School of Law's Immigrant Rights Clinic, under Washington Square Legal Services, Inc., the NYU Immigrant Defense Initiative serves the University community and immediate family members with free, confidential advice and representation in immigration cases. Following an initial screening, cases suitable for pro bono representation will be referred out for possible representation and advocacy. Additional cases may be taken on for direct representation by the Immigrant Defense Initiative or referred to outside non-profit organizations or private attorneys.
