Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students to serve preschool children in low-income neighborhoods. The Jumpstart curriculum helps children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for kindergarten — setting them on a path to close the achievement gap before it is too late.

Jumpstart NYU Corps members have the unique opportunity to inspire young children to learn, serve in preschools on the Lower East Side, work on a team, and build professional skills. Previous teaching experience is not required: all Corps members receive professional-caliber training to help them implement Jumpstart's outcome based program, promote children's school success, and build family involvement. Jumpstart NYU Corps Member serve part-time between 8 and 15 hours per week. We will be hosting Jumpstart sessions two times a week for either 30 minutes or two hours. Virtual teams will lead sessions for 30 minutes, while those serving in person will lead for two hours. Sessions will fall within these time frames:

 

  • Mondays and Wednesdays: 8:00am – 1:00pm
  • Mondays and Wednesdays: 1:00pm – 6:00pm
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: 8:00am – 1:00pm
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: 1:00pm – 6:00pm
