violet flowers in bloom at NYU

Social media is one of the most prominent and nimble tools we have for coming together as an NYU community to share breaking news, institutional updates, and points of #VioletPride; celebrate the achievements of our faculty, students, staff, and alumni; mark traditions such as Move-In or Commencement; and highlight the vibrancy of university life on our unique urban campuses.

NYU’s central social media channels—which reach a combined audience of more than two million followers, from prospective students to alumni around the world—are managed by a team within NYU’s Office of Public Affairs. In providing real-time University news and updates as well as messaging from NYU leadership around current events and issues, these channels serve as a resource to other professional communicators who maintain hundreds of additional accounts representing each of NYU’s schools and many key offices, departments, centers, and institutes. And many individual NYUers use their personal accounts to connect with one another, participate in university-wide campaigns, and share their #VioletPride.

Professional Development and Support for Employees

All employees who manage active social media pages on behalf of an NYU entity are invited to join NYU’s Social Media Ambassadors Group, which provides guidelines and tips, industry news and updates, timely content suggestions, and networking and professional development opportunities for communicators working in this field. Members of the group also receive alerts when the University publishes messages that should be amplified broadly across NYU channels.

An NYU.edu email account is required for membership.
