Dean Patricia Morris Carey

Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development; Associate Vice Provost for Diversity Programs

Patricia Morris Carey’s career exemplifies a commitment to education, community, and activism. She currently serves as the Associate Dean for Student Affairs in the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University. She also serves as University Associate Vice Provost for Diversity Programs. Dr. Carey is a founder of the Association of Black Women in Higher Education (ABWHE) and served as Third National President, with an emphasis during her tenure on networking, mentoring, and partnerships. Dr. Carey has served on a number of boards, currently including the United Neighborhood Houses (UNH) as its Vice Chair; the ArtsConnection; and the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City. Dr. Carey holds the Bachelor and Masters degrees from Michigan State University and the PhD from New York University.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Allen M. McFarlane

Assistant Vice President for Outreach and Engagement, NYU Division of Student Affairs

In support of the NYU global network university vision, Allen conducts meetings, research and assessment of New York University undergraduate international freshman and transfers students arriving to New York City. The goal of this strategic initiative is to gather information and knowledge that will help make New York University a smaller and more personal place for students. Allen advises the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs, University colleagues and faculty on the research findings and makes recommendations in support of international student transition and campus community building. And in support of international graduate student transition to the NYU, he is a co-facilitator for the Division of Student Affairs, English Conversation Groups program. Allen also serves on a variety of committees and work-groups designed to enhance the lives of all NYU students and its diverse alumni.

With more than 30 years of service to New York University, Allen has amassed a notable list of accomplishments and championed innovation for award winning Student Affairs units in the areas of student diversity, diversity education, and career development. Further, he is an adjunct faculty member in the NYU Department of Social and Cultural Analysis. Allen conceived, created, co-developed and co-teaches a course entitled Black Diversity Contributions to America. The course examines how differences in the choice of career, religion, politics and dissent in the black community shapes individual and societal identity.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, Allen completed his tour of military service at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton Virginia. Upon his honorable discharge at the rank of Sergeant, he returned to New York and worked in the import-export industry, publishing and retail. He later enrolled as a student at New York University.

As an alumnus of New York University with undergraduate degrees in Social Sciences (School of Professional Studies) and graduate degree in Higher Education & Administration (Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development), Allen has served on a variety of Boards (National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Of Note Magazine, Braata Folk Singers...) and has been honored with awards and recognition from students, colleagues and professionals.
