Library

The striking, 12-story Elmer Holmes Bobst Library, designed by Philip Johnson and Richard Foster, is the seat of the Dean of Libraries and central to the intellectual life of NYU’s Washington Square-based students and faculty. Bobst Library and seven others, including the libraries of NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Shanghai, comprise the Division of Libraries. Bobst Library houses more than four million volumes, 53,320 serial titles and over 43,000 linear feet of archives; the Libraries catalog also provides NYU’s global community with access to thousands of electronic resources. The library receives 10,000 visits per day and circulates 159,000 items annually. Bobst Library offers more than 2,600 seats for student study.

Avery Fisher Center for Music and Media

One of the world’s largest academic media centers, the Avery Fisher Center has over 10 audio and video viewing carrels, 6 multi-person collaborative rooms, and 1 immersion room; students and researchers use more than 240,594 physical audio and video recordings per year.

Digital Studio

The Digital Studio offers a constantly evolving, leading-edge resource for faculty and student projects and promotes and supports access to digital resources for teaching, learning, research and arts events.

Data Services

Data Services assist students and faculty with digital research projects and data collection/statistical computing, including instruction, software, consultation, and more.

Special Collections

Bobst Library’s Special Collections Center houses such renowned resources as the Fales Collection of English and American Literature, one of the best collections of English and American fiction in the United States; the unique Downtown Collection, which documents the downtown New York literary and arts scene from the 1970s to the mid 1990s; and the Marion Nestle Food Studies Collection, which documents American foodways with a focus on New York City. Also based in the Center Tamiment Library, one of the finest resources in the world for scholarly research in the history of labor, socialism, anarchism, communism, and American radicalism. Within Tamiment, the Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives hold the Jewish Labor Committee Archives and the historical records of more than 130 New York City labor organizations.
