Hotels and Neighborhoods
No matter where you stay, we hope you enjoy your visit to NYU and take advantage of the wonderful resources New York City has to offer.
Located around Washington Square Park in the heart of New York City's Greenwich Village or across the East River in the center of Downtown Brooklyn, NYU's main locations in New York City are the cornerstone of our global University. We hope that all of our students spend at least a semester here, prospective students get to tour in-person, and our families and business partners have the chance to visit as well.

We offer two curated lists of hotels that can both provide discounts to NYU'ers – even if you are not formally a member of the NYU community yet. Each list is not an exhaustive collection of all locations available. While we help to connect you with discounts, we cannot formally endorse each hotel listed. You should still inquire with each for availability, an NYU discount, and any stipulations that may come with the discount.
Greenwich Village
Falls Between These Streets: 14th Street in the north, down to Houston Street
(Be a local and say "Howston", not "Hewston.")
Includes These Neighborhoods: the West Village and the East Village
This is our home base and staying in this neighborhood will be most convenient getting to and from buildings; however, there are few hotel options so you may find a nearby neighborhood more fitting. It is also a 20-25 minute trip to Downtown Brooklyn from here.
Looking Downtown in Manhattan
Lower Manhattan
Falls Between These Streets: Houston Street south to the tip of Manhattan
Neighborhoods Include: SoHo, Nolita, Little Italy, Lower East Side, Chinatown, TriBeCa, Financial District, and Battery Park City.
Hotels in these areas will require a longer walk or a short subway ride to get you to your NYU destination in the Village or Downtown Brooklyn. If you're headed to the Washington Square area, and if you're coming from the Lower East Side pay special close attention to where those trains are. Some of them are likely to be farther away from your hotel. There are also some NYU locations in Lower Manhattan that may make these neighborhoods especially convenient.
Looking Uptown in Manhattan
14th Street to 42th Street
Neighborhoods Include: Union Square, Chelsea, Kips Bay, Garment District, Murray Hill, Flatiron District, Hudson Yards
Hotels in this area will most likely require travel by public transportation or by car to get to the Washington Square area and especially Downtown Brooklyn. However, if you're visiting a location in Union Square, or our Medical Cooridor or in Kips Bay, or a Midtown location, this can be a very convenient area.
Midtown
Falls Between These Streets: 42nd Street to 59th Street
Neighborhoods Include: Midtown East and Midtown West
Hotels in this area will require travel by public transportation or by car unless you are visiting a location in Midtown.
Uptown
Falls Between These Streets: North of 59th Street
Neighborhoods Include: Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Harlem, Washington Heights
You are going to need to take a train downtown to visit most of our locations which will take you about 25-35 minutes for Washington Square or about 30-45 minutes to Brooklyn. There are a few NYU locations in the Upper East Side so staying there or in Midtown East can be convenient.
Downtown Brooklyn
Falls Between These Streets: East River on the north, Schermerhorn St on the south, Cadman Plaza West on the west, and Navy St on the east
Nearby Neighborhoods: Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Vinegar Hill
With most of our Brooklyn locations in this neighorhood, getting to other neighboring Brooklyn locations can be a moderate walk or subway ride or easy car ride. Getting to Washington Square takes 15-25 minutes to travel by subway. It is important to note that not all popular neighborhoods in Brooklyn are easily accessible to Downtown Brooklyn so take caution in selecting a place to stay in other Brooklyn neighborhoods.
