NYU alumni score wins in major categories, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor, and Outstanding Directing.
Alumni from New York University received a total of 18 Emmy Awards, including both Creative Emmy Awards, announced September 9 and 10, and Primetime Emmy Awards, which were announced at the 69th Annual Emmy Awards ceremony on Sunday, September 18, 2017. NYU alumni took home awards in a range of categories, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Writing, and Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.
NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts had the most winners, with 12 alumni taking home 14 awards. Two Tisch alumni – Donald Glover (TSOA ’06) and Reed Morano (TSOA ‘01), won two Emmy Awards. Glover won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, both for the FX series Atlanta. Morano won for both Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for Hulu’s The Handmaids Tale.
Other NYU schools with Emmy winning alumni included the School of Professional Studies, the College of Arts and Science (and Washington Square College), the Stern School of Business, and the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.
The Emmys are awarded annually by the Television Academy in recognition of excellence in primetime programming and individual achievement for the 2016 – 2017 television season. The 69th Emmy Awards were broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on CBS.
