NYU Wagner Hosts Forum on Cities and Climate Change

The U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) and the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) have jointly launched the Alliance for a Sustainable Future to strengthen cooperation between cities and businesses committed to meeting climate and clean energy challenges. And, on Wednesday, September 21, USCM and C2ES will present the Alliance’s first public forum – to be held at New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, Puck Building, 295 Lafayette St. (at the corner of Houston St.), 2nd Floor, New York, N.Y. – to examine ways cities and the business community can work together to reduce carbon emissions and meet state and national climate and energy goals. Baltimore, MD, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Santa Fe, NM, Mayor Javier Gonzales, Elizabeth, NJ, Mayor Chris Bollwage, and Josh Sawislak, AECOM’s global director for resilience, will be participating in the discussion. The event, from 1:30pm – 3:00pm, is free and open to the public. RSVP here.

The meeting will take place during Climate Week NYC, September 19 -25. During the first United Nations General Assembly post Paris – and with the U.S. elections just weeks away – Climate Week NYC 2016 will gather leaders from business and government to demonstrate how continued investment in innovation, technology and clean energy will drive profitability and lead toward net zero emissions.

As the landmark Paris Agreement and implementation of the Clean Power Plan each move forward, cities and businesses are playing a vital and growing role in building a more sustainable, low-carbon future. The newly formed Alliance creates a framework for mayors and business leaders to develop concrete approaches to reduce carbon emissions, speed deployment of new technology, and implement sustainable development solutions. By building crucial links between cities and companies, the Alliance aims to spur innovative public-private partnerships and expedite solutions.
