NYU will host “Relations Between Arabs and Jews in Israel: Recent Developments and Future Trends,” a one-day conference that will address education, land rights, and governing bodies, on Sun., Nov. 13.

New York University will host “Relations Between Arabs and Jews in Israel: Recent Developments and Future Trends,” a one-day conference that will address education, land rights, and governing bodies, on Sun., Nov. 13, 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m. at NYU’s Kimmel Center for University Life, Room 914 (60 Washington Square South [at LaGuardia Pl.]).

Presentations will include the following: “Palestinian Authority Relations with the Israeli Arab Community” (Sufyan Abu­Zayda, Alquds University); “Arabs and Jews in Israeli Politics and Government” (Rami Zeedan, the Open University of Israel); “The Politics of Arabic in Israel” (Benjamin Hary, NYU-Tel Aviv); “Pluralism in Higher Education as a Path for Change” (Sarah Ozacky­Lazar, the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute); and “Educational Projects as Means of Easing Tension in Divided Societies” (Ruwaida Abu Rass, the Academic College Beit Berl).

Opening remarks will be delivered by: Professor Ronald Zweig, director of NYU’s Taub Center for Israel Studies; NYU Provost Katherine Fleming; University of Haifa President Ron Robin; and Professor Marion Katz, chair of NYU’s Department of Middle Easter and Islamic Studies.

The event is sponsored by the University of Haifa as well as by NYU’s Taub Center for Israel Studies, its Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, and the university’s Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies.
