New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service is pleased to announce the opening -- on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. -- of a new artist exhibition entitled “Clever Lines: The Political Cartoons of Kevin (Kal) Kallaugher.” The opening will be accompanied by a panel discussion with NYU Wagner clinical associate professor and CNN presidential historian Timothy Naftali (moderator), and a roster of comedians, authors, and media experts from Funny Or Die  as well as The Economist, among other organizations.

The special evening at NYU Wagner begins at 6 p.m. with the exhibition preview with the artist. The panel then convenes at 7 p.m, followed by a reception from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. RSVP is required for this limited-space event (free and open to the public). Kindly RSVP by Friday, September 9.

Kevin Kallaugher is the international award-winning editorial cartoonist for The Economist and The Baltimore Sun. A Norwalk, Connecticut native and Harvard graduate, Kal has created over 8,000 cartoons and 140 magazine covers. His resumé includes six collections of his published work, exhibitions in a dozen countries, and awards and honors in seven. In 2015, he was awarded Cartoon of the Year in Europe, The Herblock Prize, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. The World Encyclopedia of Cartoons said of Kal “Commanding a masterful style, Kallaugher stands among the premier caricaturists of the (20th) century.”

Whether commenting on national news or foreign affairs, current events or historical benchmarks, Kallaugher infuses his cartoons with an unmistakable brand of humor, irreverent lampoonery, and astute political insight. "Clever Lines" celebrates his distinguished 38-year career and the energy, wit, and artistry that are packed into the contemporary editorial cartoon. The exhibition will showcase both recent works as well as a retrospective of his most memorable and acclaimed illustrations.

The Fall 2016 exhibition, through November 10, is presented in conjunction with the panel discussion as part of NYU Wagner’s Decision 2016 Series—a calendar of programs leading up to November’s national elections. "Clever Lines" is curated by Frankie Crescioni-Santoni and co-sponsored by the Wagner Policy Alliance.
