Cameron Myler — a four-time United States Olympian and one of the country’s most accomplished athletes in the sport of luge — has joined the sports management faculty of the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS) Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management as a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor of Sports Management.

NEW YORK, March 11, 2014 – Myler teaches courses in International Sports Governance, Amateur Sports Governance, Legal Issues in Sports, and Organizations in Sports to both graduate and undergraduate students.

“We are thrilled that Cameron has joined our full-time faculty,” said NYU-SCPS Tisch Center Divisional Dean Bjorn Hanson. “Her decade of experience as a sports and intellectual property lawyer coupled with a distinguished Olympic career provides an unequalled complement to our faculty of sports experts. Our students will benefit immensely from her expertise and profound knowledge of sports business.”

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join the very talented group of faculty and staff at NYU-SCPS so I can share my passion for and knowledge of Olympic and professional sports with future leaders in the industry,” said Cameron Myler. “My goal is to provide students with a strong academic foundation, as well as practical skills they will need to thrive in the classroom and then ultimately in their professional careers.”

At age 16, Myler was the youngest U.S. Women’s National Luge Champion in the country’s history. As a member of the U.S. National Luge Team from 1985-1998, Myler competed on four Olympic Teams, was U.S. National Champion seven times, and won 11 World Cup medals, more than any other American woman in the history of the sport. She was elected by her Olympic teammates to carry the American flag at the Opening Ceremonies of the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway.

While training and competing for the U.S. National Team, Myler graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from Dartmouth College. After retiring from luge following the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, she attended Boston College Law School and received her J.D. in 2001. She recently completed her Executive Masters in Sports Organization Management from the Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium, a program coordinated by the International Olympic Committee. In over a decade of legal practice for such firms as Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz, Myler represented Olympic athletes and sports organizations in regulatory, eligibility, ethics, and anti-doping matters.

Using her public platform as an Olympic athlete to promote social change, Myler has served as an athlete ambassador for Kids Play International’s program in Africa, a member of the nonprofit Art of the Olympians, an ambassador for Athlete Ally, and as a member of the IOC’s International Olympic Academy in Olympia Greece. Through these programs, Myler has promoted the Olympic ideals and vision around the world.

Myler has previously served as a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee’s (USOC) Board of Directors and Athletes’ Advisory Council, and as the vice president of USA Luge, the National Governing Body for the sport in the United States. As a member of the USOC’s Governance and Ethics Task Force, Myler helped develop and lead the implementation of significant changes to the USOC’s governance structure and testified before the U.S. Congress with respect to the organizational reform.

Myler has authored numerous articles regarding intellectual property and Olympic sports. She is a frequent commentator on sports and legal issues and has been quoted in multiple media outlets, including The New York Times, Washington Post, International Herald Tribune, and ESPN.
