The NYU Alumni Association (NYUAA) will honor four outstanding graduates at its annual Awards Luncheon: Edith S. Windsor, lead plaintiff in the groundbreaking gay marriage legal case; Rachel A. Robinson, civil rights activist and wife of baseball trailblazer Jackie Robinson; Winston W. Ma, international business leader; and Chris Harrison, interactive technology innovator.
The event will be held on Thursday, April 24, from 12:00 -2:00 pm at the Grand Hyatt New York. It will be hosted by NYU President John Sexton and Phyllis Putter Barasch (STERN ’81), NYU Trustee and NYUAA President.
NYU President John Sexton said, “We are immensely proud of these men and women. Their lives and accomplishments exemplify NYU’s highest traditions of service, courage, and leadership. Their achievements reflect great credit on NYU, and they are worthy examples to our students.”
- Edith S. Windsor -- alumna of NYU’s Graduate School of Arts and Science (1957); LGBTQ advocate; litigant in US v. Windsor, which challenged the Defense of Marriage Act – will receive the Eugene J. Keogh Award for Distinguished Public Service.
- Rachel A. Robinson – alumna of the NYU College of Nursing (1961); civil rights leader; creator of foundations in the name of her husband Jackie Robinson to support education, leadership, and housing – will receive the Distinguished Alumna Award.
- Winston W. Ma – alumnus of the NYU School of Law (1998); international business leader; managing director of the China Investment Corporation – will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
- Chris Harrison – alumnus of both NYU’s College of Arts and Science and the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences; Carnegie Mellon faculty member; and an award-winning innovator of human/computer interaction – will receive the Distinguished Young Alumnus Award.
