At the event, Rich will revisit the terrain of this movement by examining it—with film clips—in the context of our contemporary sociopolitical order.
Rich, author of New Queer Cinema: The Director’s Cut (Duke, 2013) and Chick Flicks: Theories and Memories of the Feminist Film Movement (Duke, 1998), is the incoming editor of Film Quarterly, the oldest continuing film journal in the U.S.
She is the former director of the Film Program at the New York State Council on the Arts and has published in the Village Voice, the New York Times, the Guardian, the Nation, GLQ, Signs, and numerous other popular and scholarly journals. A longtime commentator and correspondent in radio and television, Rich is a member of SAG-AFTRA and has received the Distinguished Career Achievement award of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, among other honors. She is a professor in the Social Documentation Master Program in UC Santa Cruz’s Film and Digital Media Department.
