Created in 2010, the International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame recognizes nurse researchers who have achieved significant and sustained national or international recognition and whose research has improved the profession and the people it serves.  The award presentation is sponsored by Wiley-Blackwell.

Kurth is Slovak on her mother’s side.  Her family became American as a result of her maternal great-grandmother’s death in childbirth, due to lack of a health provider. To escape the memories, her heartbroken great-grandfather immigrated to the US, with her 3-year old grandmother in tow. That grandmother volunteered as a nursing aide in WWII, and Kurth’s mother also become a nurse.  For Kurth, getting this award in Prague ties a familial- professional thread together for her in so many ways.

"I am extremely humbled to receive this award among a cohort of leading nurse researchers, several of whose mentoring I have benefited tremendously from over the years,” said Kurth. “Furthermore, to be inducted in Prague, where I have maternal heritage, closes a circle."

“This year’s International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame inductees come from six countries and 11 U.S. states,” says STTI President Suzanne Prevost, PhD, RN, COI. “Their research projects will be shared through the Virginia Henderson International Nursing Library online so that nurses everywhere can benefit from their discoveries and insights into patient outcomes, health care policies, and much more.”

“Wiley is proud to continue its support of this prestigious award for another year,” says Griselda Campbell, associate director of nursing publishing for Wiley. “We welcome the 19 inductees for 2013 who are conducting some of the finest research in the field.”
