NYU Deutsches Haus to Welcome NY Literary Festival Feb. 21

Deutsches Haus of New York University will host the opening night reception of the Festival Neue Literatur – New York’s pre-eminent German-language literary festival– on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Goethe-Institut New York, 2 Spring Street, 11th Fl., New York, N.Y.

The event inaugurates the fourth annual Festival Neue Literatur, which will take place Feb. 22-to-24 at several locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Under the curatorial direction of author and acclaimed translator Susan Bernofsky and journalist Claudia Steinberg, the festival will feature writers Clemens Setz (Austria), Cornelia Travnicek (Austria), Leif Randt (Germany), and Silke Scheuermann (Germany), Tim Krohn (Switzerland), and Ulrike Ulrich (Switzerland). The slate of German-language authors will be joined by prominent American writers Joshua Cohen and Joshua Ferris in a series of panel discussions throughout the festival weekend.

The festival will also include the newly established Friedrich Ulfers Prize awarded by Deutsches Haus at NYU to a leading publisher, writer, critic, translator or scholar who has championed the advancement of German-language literature in the United States. The prize will be awarded during the opening ceremony Feb. 21 at the Goethe-Institut New York. A jury composed of representatives of FNL partner institutions will select the inaugural recipient, who will receive $5,000 and a trophy sponsored by Swarovski Gems.
