“Something Spectacular” is Greta Gleissner’s personal chronicle of the devastating effects bulimia exacts upon her life during her time as a Rockette. In recovery from bulimia for the last 10 years, Gleissner uses her experience as a platform to help others. The event is co-sponsored by the Silver School of Social Work at NYU.

Al Thompson is an American film and television actor and stuntman. He has also been a casting director and producer. Franchesca Leigh Ramsey is a designer, comedian, and blogger. “New Media Weekly” is an in-depth talk show that covers the world of New/Social media featuring interviews with the people and companies that are the face and heart of the emerging industry. Poetry and Poetry in Translation with Bhisham Bherwani and Elena Rivera
Bhisham Bherwani will be reading from his poetry collection, “The Second Night of the Spirit”, and from translations published in “Atlanta Review”. Elena Rivera, a faculty member in NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies, will be reading from her collection of poetry, “The Perforated Map”, and from her award-winning translation of “The Rest of the Voyage” by the French poet Bernard Noel.

Beyond the Hunger Games: Three NYU Faculty Read from Their Young Adult Novels
Tara Altebrando is the author, most recently, of the young adult novel “The Best Night of Your (Pathetic) Life”, in addition to three previous YA novels: “Dreamland Social Club”, which was a Kirkus Reviews Best Books for Teens of 2011; “The Pursuit of Happiness”; and “What Happens Here”. Beth Ann Bauman is the author of three books: the short story collection “Beautiful Girls” and the young adult novels “Rosie and Skate”, selected for the New York Times Editors’ Choice list and Booklist’s Top 10 First Novels for Youth, and “Jersey Angel”. Maya Sloan is the author of the novel “High before Homeroom” and ghostwriter of the memoir “Redefining Diva”. All three are faculty at NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

Jayne Silberman, author and photographer of “In the Herd: A Photographic Journey with the Chincoteague Ponies and Assateague Horses”
Jayne Silberman has worked for many years as a psychotherapist. Her understanding of human dynamics and relationships informs her work with the wild herds, resulting in strikingly intimate views of the animals’ family and group life.
