William Shakespeare’s masterful use of language in Romeo and Juliet lifts playgoers to the height of euphoria with its tale of forbidden young love before crashing the audience to the depth of despair with its tragic consequences.  Romeo and Juliet, considered a masterpiece for its use of comedy and tragedy to heighten the story’s dramatic tension, tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers caught in the middle of a family feud before their eventual double suicide.

Romeo and Juliet is produced and performed entirely by NYU undergraduate students. The production team comprises: co-directors Dan Hasse and Noam Tomaschoff; producers Rose Bochner and Spencer Kennard; Serena Adlerstein, costume design; assistant director, Chris Corb; and Chris Dubrow, music director.

Cast members are:  Chris Brown, Christopher Dooly, Alex Esola, Aaron Hurtsellers, Elise Kibler, Chris Luggiaro, Taylor Myers, Teo Rapp-Ollson, Caleb Shomaker, Austin Short, Lelia Symington, and Noam Tomaschoff.

Shakespeare in the Square was co-founded in November 2010 by Bochner, who is also artistic director, and Hasse, who is the executive director.  The then freshmen set out to provide the only opportunity to watch and perform Shakespeare's work as it was intended—“under the sun and in front of a loud, standing, possibly distracted audience.”
