The Center for Skeletal and Craniofacial Biology has been established at the NYU College of Dentistry with funding from a National Institutes of Health grant. The center is led by Nicola Partridge, an authority on molecular endocrinology and bone and mineral research.

According to Partridge, the mission of the center is to raise the tempo of research into craniofacial syndromes—abnormalities of the skull that affect the facial plate and head, which can result in a concave face or a cleft palate. Research into bone loss related to osteoporosis, kidney failure, cancer metastasis, and periodontal disease will also be conducted.

A trans-university initiative, the new center includes faculty from the NYU College of Dentistry, the NYU Langone Medical Center, and the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases.
