The Creative Writing Program’s Fall 2012 Reading Series continues in October with events featuring Deborah Eisenberg (Oct. 4) and Pulitzer-Prize-winning poets Charles Wright (Oct. 5) and Jorie Graham (Oct. 25).

The New York University Creative Writing Program’s Fall 2012 Reading Series continues in October with events featuring Deborah Eisenberg (Oct. 4) and Pulitzer-Prize-winning poets Charles Wright (Oct. 5) and Jorie Graham (Oct. 25). All events are held in the program’s Greenwich Village home, the Lillian Vernon Creative Writers House, located at 58 W. 10th Street, unless otherwise noted.

All events are free and open to the public, with the exception of the Oct. 18 Academy of American Poets Chancellors Reading. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The New Salon: Deborah Eisenberg in Conversation with Darin Strauss
Recent MacArthur Fellow Deborah Eisenberg’s “Collected Stories” (Picador, 2010) won the PEN/Faulkner Award. NYU faculty member Darin Strauss, whose memoir “Half a Life” won the National Book Critics Circle Award, will host the event.

Happy Hour Poetry Reading: David St. John and Charles Wright
David St. John’s new poetry collection is “The Auroras,” published by Harper in spring 2012. Pulitzer Prize winner Charles Wright’s latest collection is “Bye-and-Bye: Selected Late Poems” (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2011). The popular Friday Happy Hour series features readings and refreshments on select Fridays at 5 p.m.

Fiction Reading: Adam Johnson Introduced by Zadie Smith
Set in North Korea, Adam Johnson’s acclaimed debut novel “The Orphan Master’s Son” was published by Random House in January 2012. The event is co-sponsored with the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU.

Happy Hour Poetry Reading: Tomaž Šalamun
Slovenian poet Tomaž Šalamun reads from his new collection, “On the Tracks of Wild Game” (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2012). Šalamun will be introduced by NYU faculty member and award-winning poet Matthew Rohrer. The Friday Happy Hour series features readings and refreshments on select Fridays at 5 p.m.

The Emerging Writers Reading Series—Featuring Brando Skyhorse, Guest Author
“The Madonnas of Echo Park” (Free Press, 2010), Brando Skyhorse’s first novel, won the PEN/Hemingway Award. The Emerging Writers Reading Series showcases graduate students of the NYU Creative Writing Program and features established writers as special guests.

The event features readings by the 2012 award winners. The Whiting Writers Awards are given annually to 10 emerging writers in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and plays. Past recipients include Michael Cunningham, Jorie Graham, Denis Johnson, Lydia Davis, David Foster Wallace, and Jonathan Franzen. Winners will be introduced by past Whiting awardee Saïd Sayrafiezadeh.

Happy Hour Reading: Luis Jaramillo and Sarah Manguso
Luis Jaramillo’s debut title, “The Doctor’s Wife” (Dzanc Books, 2012), won the Dzanc Books Story Collection Contest.
