Pan, whose lecture will focus on his research on the oral histories of Jews living in China, is the director of the Shanghai Center for International Studies and of the Institute of European and Asian Studies at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. He is also a member of the High-Level Group of the UN Alliance of Civilizations. The presence of Jews in China dates back to the eighth century, and Shanghai served as a safe haven for European Jewish refugees during the Holocaust.

The lecture, co-sponsored by NYU’s Center for Spiritual Life, NYU Shanghai, and the Bronfman Center for Jewish Student Life, is free and open to the public.
