The NYU Steinhardt School of Culture Education and Human Development’s Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions will host the New York University Jazz Festival 2012 featuring renowned artist and faculty, and students from Steinhardt’s Jazz Studies Program.

Legendary Jazz Artist and Steinhardt Alum, Wayne Shorter, Kicks Off New York University Jazz Festival 2012, April 26-May 6

The NYU Steinhardt School of Culture Education and Human Development’s Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions will host the New York University Jazz Festival 2012 featuring renowned artist and faculty, and students from Steinhardt’s Jazz Studies Program.
Performances will take place in a variety of venues around Greenwich Village. Festival activities include:

• The NYU Jazz Orchestra Plays the Blue Note, April 30, 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., Blue Note Jazz Club, 131 West 3rd St. NYU Steinhardt faculty members Don Friedman, Ralph Lalama, Rich Perry, Mike Rodriguez, Dave Pietro, and Lenny Pickett will perform. Cost is $15.

• NYU jazz ensembles in Washington Square Park, May 2nd and 3rd, 12 p.m.-3 p.m.

• NYU Jazz Orchestra at the Skirball Center, May 4, 8 p.m., Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, 566 LaGuardia Place. Two multimedia performances celebrating the music and the photography of the legendary composer, Sy Johnson conducted by Sy Johnson. The Jazz Orchestra will also play the music of Combo Nuvo, featuring Dave Schroeder, Billy Drewes, Mike Richmond, Rich Shemaria, John Hadfield, and Brad Shepik, accompanied by a projection of paintings by artist Ellen Colcord.

• Kenny Werner & his NYU Ensemble/Blue Note Brunch, May 6, 12:30 p.m. and 2:20 p.m., Blue Note Jazz Club. Cost is $24.50 and includes brunch.
