Exhibition at Deutsches Haus Will Feature Highlights the Work of Selected Art Students who Studied at NYU Berlin

Deutsches Haus at New York University is honored to exhibit, from April 11 through May 15, the work of selected art students who spent a semester at NYU Berlin’s campus and closely experienced the creative shockwaves emanating from Europe's epicenter of contemporary art.

The exhibition -- “Licht Meh Licht” (Light More Light), is free and open to the public from Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A meeting place for New Yorkers interested in the German-speaking world, and a natural home for all former and future NYU Berlin students, Deutsches Haus is pleased to provide exhibition space to these artists and to host the opening ceremony, which will be Tuesday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. Admission to the opening is free. However, RSVP is required – address you email to deutscheshaus.rsvp@nyu.edu – since seating availability is limited.

Deutsches Haus is located at 42 Washington Mews (at University Place) New York, N.Y. (Telephone – 212.998.8660).

“Licht Mehr Licht” explores how all sight is dependent upon our ability to perceive light. Our perception of color is changed when different wavelengths are interrupted by being absorbed, reflected, refracted, scattered, or diffracted on their way to our eyes. All visual art is dependent upon these principles even if they have not been consciously contemplated. Echoing the great German poet J. W. v. Goethe’s final words, and taken from contributing artist Sebastian Pinaud's included work, "Licht Mehr Licht" presents artists who explore these nuances of perception. The other artists in the show are Kat Bauer, Camille Beinhorn, Hilary Go, Mary Parker Jessup, Deirdre Nolan, Alice Wang, and Elliot Wright.

The exhibition is co-sponsored by NYU Global, and NYU Berlin, in collaboration with NYU Steinhardt's Department of Art and Art Professions, and Deutsches Haus.

The curatorial committee has carefully selected one exemplary artwork and will award the "NYU Berlin Culture Brewery Prize 2012" to the artist at the opening. The winner will receive $1,000 for a return trip to Berlin.
