“The Amygdaloids Variety Show: A Night of Mind, Brain, Music, and Magic,” featuring New York University Neuroscientist Joseph LeDoux, his band the Amygdaloids, and magician Mark Mitton, will take place at the Sidewalk Cafe on Wed., May 9, 7 to 9 p.m. The band's most recent EP, “All in Our Minds,” includes five tracks: “My Mind's Eye,” “Map of Your Mind,” “I Got a Mind to Tell You,” “Reminds Me of You,” and “Out of Sight, Out of Mind”.

"The Amygdaloids Variety Show: A Night of Mind, Brain, Music, and Magic,” featuring New York University Neuroscientist Joseph LeDoux, his band the Amygdaloids, and magician Mark Mitton, will take place at the Sidewalk Cafe (94 Avenue A, at East 6th Street), on Wed., May 9, 7 to 9 p.m.

LeDoux will discuss his views on the mind-body problem, memory, emotion, and mental disorders, with the band performing songs on the same topics in between his remarks. During the musical intermission, internationally acclaimed magician Mark Mitton will traverse the mysteries of brain function through mind-blowing slight of hand and distraction.

One of the Amygdaloids’ objectives is to increase awareness of mental health issues through promotion of research via music. It has previously released “Heavy Mental” and “Theory of My Mind.” LeDoux’s published works include The Emotional Brain: The Mysterious Underpinnings of Emotional Life and Synaptic Self: How Our Brains Become Who We Are.

Its most recent EP, “All in Our Minds,” includes five tracks: “My Mind's Eye,” “Map of Your Mind,” “I Got a Mind to Tell You,” “Reminds Me of You,” and “Out of Sight, Out of Mind”. The EP was produced by Jeff Peretz, an instructor at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and recorded at Head Gear, located in Williamsburg Brooklyn, and the James L. Dolan Music Recording Studio at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.
