Haber Represents College of Nursing as One of Six Award Recipients Honored

Judith Haber, PhD, APRN, BC, FAAN, The Ursula Springer Leadership Professor in Nursing and Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, is the recipient of the 2011 New York University Distinguished Teaching Award. New York University President John Sexton and Provost David McLaughlin presented Haber with the Distinguished Teaching medal at a dinner honoring the recipients on April 27.

The honor recognizes faculty who have contributed significantly to the intellectual life of New York University through their teaching. Haber is one of just six recipients to receive the award in 2011 marking the second time a College of Nursing faculty member has received this prestigious award since it was established in 1987.

“We are proud of Dr. Haber and the recognition offered by this coveted award,” said Terry Fulmer, Dean, New York University College of Nursing. “Dr. Haber is credited with demonstrating her excellence as an educator with 14 years of service to the University. She was selected by the All-University Selection Committee as she not only met, but surpassed the competitive criteria of a record of outstanding teaching effectiveness both within and outside the classroom,” added Fulmer.

Dr. Haber was cited for her ability to inspire, promote and sustain the intellectual development of students; her remarkable ability critical thinking and challenge students to independent inquiry and a sustained record of mentoring undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students as well as junior faculty; implementing a creative and engaging pedagogical approach that is innovative and intellectually rigorous; publications, including two texts (research and psychiatric nursing) that have won multiple book awards and presentations that have contributed to developing and enhancing undergraduate and graduate curricula; and an unbelievable record of awards and honors by peers across the nation for her educational contributions that impact practice.
