"Toons, Tunes and Trikfilms” Will Have One Showing at 8 p.m.; Event is Free and Open to the Public

A one-night-only showcase of 17 silent films—animated and live action—with original scores accompanied by live instrumentalists, conducted by Joe Bartolozzi, will take place Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 8 p.m. at the Frederick Loewe Theatre, located at 35 West 4th Street in New York City.  The event, entitled Toons, Tunes, and Trikfilms, is free and open to the public.

Ron Sadoff, director of the Film Scoring Program in the Steinhardt School, and John Canemaker, director of the Tisch School of the Arts (TSOA) Kanbar Animation Program, have chosen works highlighting the collaborative synergy of students from their seminars in Animation Studies and Scoring for Film and Multimedia.  Toons, Tunes, and Trikfilms ran as an annual series, presented from 1998-2007 in the Walter Reade Theatre at Lincoln Center. The first decade of shows were produced with generous support from Sayre Maxfield and the Film Society of Lincoln Center.

The films have all been produced by graduate and undergraduate students from New York University’s Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television at TSOA.  NYU Steinhardt School students comprise the live ensemble.  The musical scores are by film scoring majors in the Steinhardt School’s Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions.
