New York University College of Dentistry’s Constance T. Robinson-Turner was presented an “Unsung Heroine” award by City Councilman Leory Comrie in celebration of Women’s History Month on Saturday, March 26, 2011.

Mrs. Robinson-Turner is the administrator of the “Smiling Faces, Going Places” Mobile Dental Care Program. This program provides a fully equipped dental office to financially and medically distressed communities across New York City bringing oral care to children that may not have accessibility to dental care.

"You will stand among women who have distinguished backgrounds and a fervent dedication to working with the community. Your tireless work is a testament to what solidifies communities and firms foundations that other young women can walk on. Congratulations on your accomplishments and work,” stated Councilman Comrie.

Earlier in the month,  Turner was presented a City Council Proclamation by Majority Leader Joel Rivera in celebration of Women’s History Month on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, during Stated Council Ceremonial Tributes.

Ten years ago, Smiling Faces, Going Places mobile dental care program was established to meet a pressing need for expanded access to oral health care for medically underserved New York City youngsters. Through this program, 5,000 children annually receive comprehensive dental care that they would otherwise go without.

In the decade since its establishment, the Smiling Faces program has achieved great success, in the process becoming a model for other institutions across the country.
