The Tisch School of the Arts at New York University has announced that it has received a gift of $100,000 for the establishment of the Dan Hartman Scholarship Fund to support undergraduate students in the Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music.  The fund, named in honor of the late Dan Hartman (1950-1994), the American singer, songwriter, and record producer, has been established with a gift from the Dan Hartman Music and Arts Foundation.

“It is thanks in large part to Dan Hartman’s passion for music, his guidance, and his unwavering encouragement that I have been able to pursue my career in music and excel as both songwriter and producer,” said Charlie Midnight, trustee of the Dan Hartman Music and Arts Foundation.  “By providing this support and lending the Foundation’s name to this scholarship, it is my intention to enable worthy students to pursue their professional training in recorded music, and in so doing, fuel the next generation of artists.”

“Development of songwriting is crucial to the future of the music industry,” said Jeffrey Rabhan, chair of the Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music.  “Without people like the Midnights, the nurturing of gifted writers in need of scholarship would simply not be possible.  We are extremely grateful and proud to be the recipient of such a generous gift.”

One high-achieving undergraduate student demonstrating financial need will be awarded the Dan Hartman Scholarship each year.

The Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts is the first of its kind to provide professional business and artistic training toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree for students who aspire to succeed as creative entrepreneurs in the music industry.  Since it opened its doors in 2003, the program has been on the cutting edge of music education, offering innovative courses like “The History of Def Jam,” “Emerging Music Trends,” and “Branding.”  The program bears the name of its chief patron and advisor, Clive Davis.
