NYU Launches Online Entrepreneurship Hub for Technology Innovation, Startup Formation

New York University has launched an online entrepreneurship hub designed to support technology innovation and startup formation within the campus community. On the site, http://nyu.edu/entrepreneur, aspiring NYU entrepreneurs can discover and learn out about the university’s growing array of entrepreneurial resources, programs, and activities.

It is organized into four main sections:

NYU Ventures: This section contains profiles of the many startups that have emerged from the university and describes new opportunities at NYU to add to this rich history of entrepreneurship.

Innovation Venture Fund: In 2010, NYU announced plans to create a $20 million venture fund to spur the commercialization of technologies developed at the university and to provide “seed” funding to startup companies based on those technologies. On this page, NYU entrepreneurs can apply to the fund.

For Entrepreneurs: This section contains many of the tools and resources entrepreneurs will need to start their new venture: tips on how to develop a pitch/plan, entrepreneurship course listings, faculty, student organizations, meet-ups, newsletters, blogs, incubators, accelerators, and more.

News & Events: This section lists upcoming events and all the latest NYU entrepreneurship and Innovation Venture Fund news.

As part of this, the NYU Entrepreneurs Network (NYUEN) has launched a new blog, which can be accessed from the new entrepreneurship hub. The NYUEN is a federation of 18 entrepreneurship-related graduate and undergraduate organizations representing over 4,000 students from 10 schools and colleges across NYU. The blog will serve a focal point for observation, analysis, and discussion of entrepreneurship, venture capital, and the thriving startup community at NYU and in the larger New York City area.

“NYU has a rich history in startup activity in the information technology, life science, and clean tech sectors,” said Frank Rimalovski, managing director of the NYU Innovation Venture Fund. “Yet, these success stories are not well documented. We created this hub to both capture and celebrate that history and to aggregate the many tools and resources available at NYU and in the larger New York City startup community to support the increasing level of entrepreneurial activity we’re witnessing across NYU.”

Between 2004 and 2008 year, NYU ranked first among U.S. universities in income from technology licensing. More than 50 start-ups have been formed around NYU discoveries and ideas over the last 20 years including Sugen (acquired by Pharmacia/Pfizer), Smart Therapeutics (acquired by Boston Scientific), Anaderm (acquired by Pfizer), TouchCo, Perceptive Pixel, and Spin Transfer Technologies, among others.
