Free Writing Courses from NYU-SCPS Faculty at the NYU Bookstore

The Department of Humanities, Arts, and Writing at NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies invites all new and experienced writers to a series of creative writing classes at the NYU Bookstore (between Waverly Place and Washington Place). Subways: N, R (8th Street); 6 (Astor Place).

The series, to be held on a Tuesday each month from February through May, is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Adam Sexton at 212.998.7279 or adam.sexton@nyu.edu.

Master teachers from the Writing Program at SCPS will be lecturing on a range of writing skills, followed by writing exercises and time for discussion. Afterwards, instructors will sign copies of their books and offer additional advice to aspiring writers.

Matt de la Pena, author of the Young Adult novels I Will Save You, We Were Here, Mexican Whiteboy, and Ball Don’t Lie, which was made into a feature film starring Ludacris, Nick Cannon, and Rosanna Arquette.  

Tuesday March 8, 6:30-8 p.m.
“Writing Believable Dialogue”
Jeffrey Stanley, a playwright, screenwriter, and author of Tesla’s Letters and Medicine, Man.  His plays have been commissioned by the Ensemble Studio Theatre and performed there and at LaMama, the Cherry Lane Theater, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and elsewhere.

“Revising Your Book”
Meredith Sue Willis, author of Ten Strategies to Write Your Novel, recently published by Montemayor Press, and numerous novels, short story collections, children’s books, and books on writing and teaching. 

Tuesday May 3, 6:30-8 p.m.
“Description in Creative Writing”
Ann Napolitano, author of the novels A Good Hard Look (due in July from Penguin Press) and Within Arm’s Reach.
