Kanbar Filmmakers Have Lots to Crow About at this Year’s Oscars

Oscar season is always an exciting time for students and faculty in the Kanbar Institute as they wait and watch to see which films will walk away with the honors.  But this year’s Oscar excitement is palpable with the first Kanbar student to ever co-host the Academy Awards ceremony as well as a record number of nominations for Tisch School community members.

The first NYU student to host an Academy Award ceremony is James Franco ’11 (MFA candidate, Kanbar, Film), who is also an Oscar nominee this year.  He will share hosting responsibilities with Anne Hathaway.  In addition, 15 members of the Tisch community have been nominated for the prestigious award, including alumnus Joel Coen ’78 with three nominations as director, writer, and producer.

The Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2010 will take place Sunday, Feb. 27, and will be televised live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
