Wyclef and Melky Jean performed at a March exhibition opening of photographer Elizabeth Jordan’s “Strength and Balance” at the Gallatin Galleries. The evening was co-hosted with Gallatin alumna Christy Turlington Burns, ’99. Proceeds from the evening supported NYU’s study-abroad program in Ghana and the work of CARE, a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty, in Haiti.

“Strength and Balance,” which highlighted the achievements and challenges of Africa, was the latest in a series of Jordan’s exhibitions that are designed to raise awareness of women’s issues in areas of economic or geopolitical dislocations. Her previous show focused on Rwandan women survivors of war. Jordan’s striking images from Bosnia, Rwanda, and the streets of Moscow have been recently shown at Albion Gallery with Michael Hue Williams. Jordan has supported and raised money from the sales of her photos for “Women for Women International,” “Gift of Life, Russia,” and, recently, “Right to Play”.  For more, go to http://www.ejordanphotography.com/.

The exhibition was sponsored by Baldev Duggal, president of Lumi-Solair.
