What we do

The Community Service Committee identifies and organizes community service opportunities for administrators at NYU. Some of our past projects include fundraising walks, community relief collections, and a variety of drives and other service efforts.

Adopt a School

Our Adopt a School: Books and Bucks drive runs annually between April - May. Each year we select a different school that needs our help to expand and build their library. Administrators are able to purchase books from lists provided by the school at the NYU Bookstore with a 15% discount. We also collect "bucks" for the school during our AMC May meeting.

In past years we've supported:

  • P.S. 277 - Bronx
  • Charles A. Dorsley School P.S. 67 - Brooklyn
  • James Weldon Johnson School P.S. 57 - Manhattan
  • MS 223 - Bronx

Holiday Toy Drive

Every year between November - December, we collect toys to help brighten the holidays for local children living in the 9th Police Precinct, the East Village, the Lower East Side, the children in the 84th Police Precinct, the area surrounding our Brooklyn campus, as well as children attending the Herbert G. Birch Manhattan Early Childhood Center serving those with autism and other special needs.

Naughty Knitters

A volunteer knitting and crocheting group that brings together administrators, students, and alumni from across NYU to create handmade items for local charities. Funded by generous support from the AMC and the NYU Office of Civic Engagement, previous charitable organizations include Care for the Homeless, Visiting Neighbors, Kitty Kind, Chemo Crochet, and the U.S.O.

Knitting and crocheting supplies are available for participants at each session. Both experienced and novice knitters and crocheters are welcome. If you would like to learn to knit or crochet or to reawaken dormant skills, we would love for you to join us in our mission of spreading warmth and love through friendship and yarn!
