Welcome New NYU Parents and Welcome Back Returning Parents!
The NYU Parent Newsletter is a monthly online e-newsletter produced by the Student Resource Center to help parents stay informed and connected to what's going on around NYU in a timely way. The Parent Newsletter also serves to supplement the NYU Parents website which has numerous resources available to you and your student. Be sure to check the website regularly for dates, deadlines, contact information, neighborhood resources such as banking, storage, bakeries, supermarkets, and more at www.nyu.edu/parents.

Freshman and New Transfer Move-In
For students living in the residence halls, the buildings officially open on Sunday, August 25. New freshmen are pre-assigned a move-in time by hall and floor (for Sunday only). For transfers, transitioning and returning students, no RSVP is required. Sunday move-in times are available at www.nyu.edu/living-on.

NYU Welcome Day - Sunday, August 25
Parents of new freshmen and transfers are invited to attend NYU Welcome Day activities. This includes a "For Parents Only" welcome, receptions, department open houses, and an information fair with representatives from NYU departments. For more information on the day, click here. Note that there are no programs for parents beyond this day

WELCOME WEEK for New Undergraduates: August 26-30
Welcome Week kicks off the year with helpful (and fun!) programs for new freshmen, transfers, and transitioning students from abroad. Held the week before classes begin, Welcome Week provides new students with a great opportunity to learn about NYU and NYC, and to meet lots of new people in the process. During this time, some students will be attending their individual school orientations. Note that there are plenty of Welcome Week activities, especially in the evening, to supplement your student's school orientation schedule. Students can create their own Welcome Week schedule and incorporate other events using the scheduling system through NYU Home. More details are also available at www.nyu.edu/welcome.

MOVE-IN for Sophomore, Juniors and Seniors
For students living in the residence halls, the buildings officially open on Sunday, August 25. Returning students (sophomores, juniors and seniors) can move in on any day through the start of classes. Classes begin Tuesday, September 3rd, following the Labor Day Weekend. Although no appointment time is required, please mindful of parking signs for the day you choose to move-in. Unlike freshman year, move-in for returning students is on-your-own.

For returning students, NYU hosts Back to the Square Week and includes a variety of welcome receptions, the NYU Club Festival, the Reality Show: NYU, and a variety of workshops and programs for sophomores to seniors.

One of the most common questions we receive is regarding travel to and from the airport. As there are three major airports in the area, there are many options to choose from, depending on your budget. Helpful options are available on the following website: http://www.panynj.gov/airports/

To help you in planning for travel and holidays, the Student Resource Center has compiled a listing of common dates and deadlines on the Parents website (www.nyu.edu/parents). For a printable PDF version, which includes a directory of offices, click here.

NYU StudentLink - New this year!
We're making it easier to find important dates, deadlines, resources, and services related to registration, housing, financial aid, and bill payments. Visit www.nyu.edu/studentlink.

New York University, as a nonsectarian institution, adheres to the general policy of including in its official calendar only certain legal holidays. However, it has also long been University policy that members of any religious group may, without penalty, absent themselves from classes when compliance with their religious obligations requires it. For more information on this policy, click here.

Each year we are asked how NYU communicates to students about weather, campus emergencies and other important safety information in NY and our away sites. Please visit the NYU Department of Public Safety's website for more details. Go to www.nyu.edu/public.safety
