Washington Mews
Presently residential homes, this renovation will convert the interiors of the buildings 14A and 7&8 Washington Mews from residential into full academic use. 7&8 Washington Mews will be converted internally into one building as the new home of academic units for the Asian, Pacific, and American Studies, the China House. 14A will have the Institute for African American Affairs and well as the Africa House. These will have similar mission to our other International Houses around the Square such as La Maison Francais, Deutsche Haus, Ireland House, and the Abu Dhabi Institute.
There is also an exterior component to the renovation project which will include façade restoration and improvements to the streetscape to make them handicap accessible.
Project Overview
The scope of work To convert 7, 8, and 14A Mews properties from residential to academic use. The scope of the project includes full gut renovation to comply with current codes, addressing barrier-free access and ADA compliance issues. The project will also address historic preservation of the facades of respective properties. The project also includes improvement to the streetscape and sidewalks to make them handicap accessible.
The renovation is expected to begin in the fall of 2011 with a projected completion in the summer of 2012.
