Architectural Rendering - Thompson Street Entrance
The proposed design of the building is intended to honor its prominent location on the south side of Washington Square Park, its proximity to the historical Judson Church, and its visibility through the Washington Square Arch. It is designed to reflect the context and history of the site as well as to evoke imagery that identifies NYU's first center for spiritual life.
The symbol of the tree is one common to many of the world's religious traditions and has been used metaphorically to inspire the façade design. The building gives the appearance of a masonry wall in material and color, but uses modern curtain wall and milling technology to produce a unique filigreed screen. As a part of its rich historic context, the form of the building is simple in mass and reinforces the street wall.
