Student Service Programs

The NYU Office of Civic Engagement (OCE) coordinates employment and service programs that let students develop rich relationships with local organizations, including non-profits, public schools, city government agencies, and civic groups. Our service programs help students enrich the lives of their fellow New Yorkers -- enriching their lives as students as well.


America Reads / America Counts

The Office of Civic Engagement coordinates NYU America Reads/America Counts, the nation's largest tutoring program, in which approximately 800 undergraduate and graduate students tutor at 80 NYC public schools annually. Learn more »



The Office of Civic Engagement also operates NYU Jumpstart, an AmeriCorps program in which seventy NYU students work in small teams to help ensure academic success among pre-K children at local early education nonprofit organizations. Sign up or learn more »

Public Service Corps

The Office of Civic Engagement operates NYU’s Public Service Corps, which provides student internship opportunities in over 30 New York City government offices. Learn more »


Center for Student Activities, Leadership and Service (CSALS)

CSALS provides comprehensive programs, activities, and services that enhance the student experience, support student organizations, encourage effective citizenship, develop student leaders, and create community.
