Office of Civic Engagement

The NYU Office of Civic Engagement (OCE) coordinates student service employment programs, facilitates support for nonprofit organizations, and collects information on NYU’s service outreach in NYC. One-day or ongoing student volunteer opportunities are coordinated by the Center for Student Activities, Leadership and Service (CSALS)

Service Learning

For Students

OCE coordinates three employment programs linking students to the broader NYC community: pre-k tutoring with Jumpstart, math and reading tutoring with America Reads and Counts, and local government internships with the NYC Public Service Corps.

OCE also fields applications for Community Service Project Grants, which support students wishing to create or enhance local community service initiatives, and arranges partnerships for NYU Service Learning programs. For current Service Learning course offerings, students should check with their school's administration.

For any one-time or ongoing volunteer opportunities, students should contact the Center for Student Activities, Leadership and Service.

Jumpstart

For Nonprofits

OCE awards grants to local nonprofits through the Community Fund, NYU’s workplace giving program. OCE also connects resources from NYU’s many schools and divisions to nonprofits through the University Partners initiative. Email OCE for more information about the University Partners initiative.

Service learning courses

For Faculty, Staff, and Administrators

Via OCE, faculty, staff, and administrators have the opportunity to give back to the community through the Community Fund, NYU's workplace charitable giving program. Additionally, OCE selectively provides grants for faculty who would like to start their own Service Learning Courses

OCE organizes episodic service opportunities for faculty, staff, and administrators. Email OCE for more information.
