Broadway Block Sidewalk Restoration


NYU will repair sections of the sidewalk on the north side of Washington Place and the south side of Waverly Place between Broadway and Mercer Street. This work is one segment of a multi-year project that target the perimeter of the academic block bound by Mercer Street, Washington Place, Broadway, and Waverly Place, called the "Broadway Block."

Project Timeline
 

  • The project is scheduled to start in June and continue through August, 2014.
  • Protective sidewalk sheds are slated to be erected in early June.
  • Sidewalk demolition is scheduled to last through June.   

Scope of Work

 

  • The rehabilitation process begins with demolition of the concrete top slab, followed by waterproofing of the below-grade structure, followed by the pouring of new surface concrete and attendant restoration work.
  • Jack hammering is required for approximately two weeks on both Waverly Place and Washington Place.
  • Enclosed sidewalk sheds will be built to reduce sound and dust.

Construction Update, August 8, 2014

Workers have started to dismantle the sidewalk shed on Washington Place. A concrete pour has been scheduled between Mercer Street and Broadway for Saturday, August 9 from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. The sidewalk shed along Waverly Place is scheduled to be dismantled the week of August 18, and a concrete pour scheduled for August 20-22.
