The C-Team was formed in January of 1989 by President Emeritus L. Jay Oliva, then the Chancellor of New York University to encourage student participation in community service activities. Thanks to the strong support and encouragement of the NYU community, and to the enthusiastic involvement of New York University students, the C-Team has become a model for successful volunteer efforts.

Not only have C-Team members brought greatly-needed relief to struggling and deserving community service organizations, but they, in turn, have learned the most valuable lesson any student at NYU can learn - that of being of service to others.

The idea of a volunteer "team" is central to the success of this group. Together with staff from the Office of Community Service and the staff at the participating agencies, C-Team members make a significant contribution to their community. Recruitment meetings are held twice per year, in the first few weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters.

With a membership of over 250, the C-Team is at work throughout Manhattan. Volunteers provide greatly needed support to non-profit agencies serving at-risk youth, senior citizens, homebound elderly, shelter animal and hungry and homeless New Yorkers.

Over the past 17 years over 5,000 C-Team volunteers has have provided crucial services to the NYU community.
