Grad Alley and Commencement Greening Initiatves
The NYU Community has been making a concerted effort to recycle, develop sustainable programs, and reduce our carbon footprint.
In connection with the University's sustainability efforts, the Office of University Events:
- replaced the printed six-part Commencement candidate and Grad Alley invitation — over 15,000 invitations — with one printed invitation card saving many, many trees and making it easier for students to access information via the web
Grad Alley:
- eliminated 10,000 beverage cans that would otherwise go into landfills and replaced them with eco-friendly recyclable bottles of water
- set up three types of recycling stations to recover over 10,000 bottles for reuse while providing a simple and enjoyable system for graduates and guests to assist the University with sustainability
- recruited "Green Team" volunteers to encourage guests to recycle their bottles
- replaced 4,000 balloons with reusable kite banners
- required vendors to use recyclable paper products (cups, napkins, etc.)
- pulled power from NYU buildings or used bio-diesel to fuel outside generators
Please help us by encouraging your guests to recycle and reuse at Grad Alley and Commencement.
