Grad Alley and Commencement Greening Initiatves
The NYU Community has been making a concerted effort to recycle, develop sustainable programs, and reduce our carbon footprint.
The Office of University Events is making the following changes for Grad Alley and Commencement 2008 in connection with the University's sustainability efforts:
- replacing the printed six-part Commencement candidate and Grad Alley invitation over 15,000 invitations with one printed invitation card saving many, many trees and making it easier for students to access information via the web
Grad Alley Specific:
- eliminating 10,000 beverage cans that would otherwise go into landfills and replacing them with eco-friendly recyclable bottles of water
- setting up three types of recycling stations to recover over 10,000 bottles for reuse while providing a simple and enjoyable system for graduates and guests to assist the University with sustainability
- recruiting "Green Team" volunteers to encourage guests to recycle their bottles
- replacing 4,000 balloons with reusable kite banners
- requiring vendors to use recyclable paper products (cups, napkins, etc.)
- pulling power from NYU buildings or using bio-diesel to fuel outside generators
Please help us by encouraging your guests to recycle and reuse at Grad Alley and Commencement.
