Graduates and degree candidates who wish to participate are required to wear academic attire and to march with members of the faculty, officers of the administration, trustees and honored guests in the academic procession. Rental information and an order form is included with the Commencement invitation.

• Some graduate schools have different procedures and will notify their students directly.
• SCPS Master's degree candidate orders must be received on-line by Monday, April 7.

Doctoral (and LL.M.) cap, gown, and hood:

Bachelor's and associate's cap and gown:

Law and Dentistry Students: If you have already ordered your academic attire for your school ceremony, do not duplicate your order. Follow all instructions provided by your school.

All degree candidates are strongly encouraged to pick up their own academic attire.

Third Party Academic Attire Pick-Up

If the degree candidate lives out of state or cannot pick up academic attire at the times allotted, a third party may pick up the academic attire providing the following documentation is presented:

Late Orders

If you miss the April 13 deadline, you must place and pick up a late order any time after Tuesday, May 5, during regular distribution hours. Go to the Barrie Dance Studio, on the first floor of Coles, beginning Wednesday, May 6, when a representative of Herff Jones, Inc. will be available to take and fill your late order in one transaction. All late orders must be paid by certified check, money order, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover) or cash. The latter will speed up your transaction. Please understand that the rental firm might have to make substitutions to fill late orders.

Note: Academic attire distribution is not a function of Coles operations. The Coles Sports Center staff cannot accept ANY academic attire orders at any time.

Cap, Gown and Hood Distribution

Degree candidates can pick up their academic attire from Herff Jones, Inc. at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center, 181 Mercer Street between Bleecker and Houston Streets, at the following times:

Be prepared to show valid photo I.D. to claim your rented attire.

Since the rented attire has been folded and placed in a bag for distribution, it is recommended that you pick it up in time to have it pressed before the ceremony.

Place your order on-line by Monday, April 13.

Cap, Gown and Hood Return

If your independent school ceremony takes place before Wednesday, May 13, and you attend the All-University Commencement on May 13, you must return all academic attire by 2:30 p.m. following the Commencement ceremony to Herff Jones at Gate 8, where you entered Yankee Stadium. Herff Jones, Inc. will hold the renter financially responsible for unreturned items.

If your independent school ceremony is on Wednesday afternoon, May 13, or between May 13 and May 26, hold on to your rented academic attire for your school ceremony. Herff Jones, Inc. will have collection bins available on-site after your ceremony.

If you rented academic attire for your individual school ceremony only (for ceremonies up until May 15) and do not plan to attend the All-University Commencement in on Wednesday, May 13, return the attire to the Barrie Dance Studio (same as pick-up location) in the Coles Center, 181 Mercer Street, on Monday, May 11, Tuesday, May 12, or Friday, May 15 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., or on Thursday, May 14, between 11:00 am - 6:00 pm.

After May 15, if your school ceremony has already passed, you must mail academic attire back to:

Refunds

Refunds will be made to those students who cancel their orders in writing to Herff Jones, Inc., via certified mail and postmarked by Monday, April 27. No refund will be made in the event of rain. No refund will be made once academic attire has been picked up from the distribution center.
