WISS Statutes and By-laws
ARTICLE I: NAME AND PURPOSE
The Wagner International Students Society (WISS) is a student organization that represents the Wagner international student body, and works to address and promote international student interests.
WISS aims to promote stronger ties between the international student community at Wagner, through professional and social events, and by being a resource and facilitator for student and academic life.
ARTICLE II: MEMBERSHIP
All bona fide Wagner students may become members of WISS.
General plenary meetings are held during each semester, one at the beginning of the year and one at the end of the year.
ARTICLE III: OFFICERS
The officers of WISS are as follows: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
Duties of Officers:
President: act as a WISS representative in advocacy, mobilization and implementation
of WISS activities and objectives;
ensure completion of all tasks undertaken by WISS;
see to it that tasks related to group programme activities are clearly identified,
assigned to the appropriate group members and properly coordinated among members.
Vice President: assume functions of the president in her/his absence;
support president in designated tasks.
Secretary: keep complete set of minutes and of group correspondence; keep record
of group's decisions;
follow up with sub-committees on the status of tasks undertaken;
maintain the membership list (data base);
overall responsibility for meetings (e.g. make sure there is always a chair/rapporteur).
Treasurer: responsible for all financial transactions (payments and receipts);
keep books for group and manage bank account;
do financial planning e.g. for special group events/activities.
ARTICLE IV: ELECTIONS
Officers shall be elected by members present at the year end General plenary meeting.
Officers shall hold office for 1 year. If it is the wish of the majority of the members, officers can be re-elected.
A good faith effort will be made to maintain gender parity amongst the four officers, especially between the President and Vice-President.
Any WISS member present at the year end General plenary meeting can vote.
Continuity: Officers must be serving in New York, during the regular academic year. Nomination is open to any WISS member in New York, including serving officers. Individuals may nominate themselves or another person.
Nominations should be forwarded to the Secretary, at least one month prior to the year end General plenary meeting. The Secretary will be responsible for disseminating information on nominations via the Wagner International listserve.
ARTICLE V: AMENDMENT TO BY-LAWS
If a majority of WISS members feels it is necessary, the By-laws may be reviewed at the General plenary meeting. In the event of an urgent need for amendment between General plenary meetings, a special committee will be created to formulate an interim amendment for approval of the group.
