About Our General Meetings

A Brief Overview

USA at NYU hosts a general meeting every-other-week during the academic year. The general meetings usually begin with Naam Simran, or recitation of God’s name as a way of meditation and remembrance of God and general announcements followed by the activity of the day—either a discussion, a seminar, movie, or game. All the activities are related to Sikhi and USA at NYU’s mission. Often, knowledgeable guest speakers are invited in for the meetings.

In the past, discussions and seminars have been held on the following topics:

  • Anand Karaj
  • The 5 Vices
  • Kaam (Lust)
  • Life After Death
  • 1984 Operation Bluestar
  • Gurudwara Protocols and Procedures
  • Science & Technology in Sikhi
  • Kirtan Sohila
  • France & Belgium Turban Issues
  • Naam Simran in Daily Life
  • How to explain Sikhism to a stranger in an elevator ride
Social activities include games such as Sikhism Taboo, ice cream socials, Sikh Jeopardy, as well as movie nights. All are welcome to attend our meetings and events!
