WSN: Hunger banquet stuffs some, starves others
"At last night's Oxfam Hunger Banquet in the Kimmel Center, some audience members sat on the floor. Some ate a full meal of pasta and salad, while others only ate rice and beans. It was all based on luck of the draw." WSN: Oxfam hosts free concert for NYU activism "The student group Oxfam at NYU is hosting a free concert to raise awareness of social issues and create a stronger network among social activist groups on campus." (While some information isn't accurate, we thank the WSN for writing an article anyway!) WSN: Java City changes menu to fair-trade organics "Java City recently launched a completely organic menu at Weinstein residence hall as part of its Eco Grounds program. The cafe is NYU's only dining site that serves only organic food and is fair-trade certified." WSN: Oxfam fasts to face world hunger "More than 60 student activists around campus struggled through hunger pains yesterday as Oxfam America held its national Fast for World Harvest Day." WSN: White, Oxfam take WSN editorial criticism in stride "While we applaud WSN's recognition of our Social Justice Conference held at NYU, we want to clarify the fact that this conference was a collaborative effort designed to engage student activists dealing with a range of issues on all parts of NYU's campus." WSN: Oxfam needs new tactics "...instead of asking the university to buy only fair-trade coffee for its dining facilities, the students are appealing to Aramark, the university's dining contractor. While going through the university's notoriously red tape-infested bureaucracy is never pleasant, it's unavoidable." WSN: Oxfam fights for fair trade "Student activists discussed a petition to serve fair-trade coffee at the university's dining locations, as well as issues of equality and social change, at a student-run social justice conference yesterday." (A slightly misleading headline about our Social Justice conference.) WSN: Oxfam NYU calls for fair trade coffee "NYU is considering a student petition to offer fair trade coffee at more dining locations and may offer the environmentally friendly product soon." WSN: Activists on campus are doing something Op-Ed written by Amanda White about campus activism, especially with respect to Oxfam, at NYU. WSN: Dining services to expand Description of Java City's switch to all fair trade and eco-friendly coffee; they may not always get their terminology right ("free" trade), but we respect them for putting out this piece! Millenium Campaign: Second White Band Day For the Second White Band Day on September 10, 2005, Oxfam America at New York University (NYU) and the ONE campaign wrapped the Washington Square Park Arch in New York City in a white band. |
