I Fought Hunger Today

16 NOV 05 | On Wednesday, November 16, students all over NYU's campus fasted for the day to raise awareness about global hunger. Many could be seen wearing stickers, and a lot stomachs were grumbling, but all for a great cause!

We had over 50 students register to fast and raise funds, which resulted in over $400 in donations sent to Oxfam famine relief programs!

In the evening, we broke the fast with three phenomenal speakers: Joe Falcone of CounterSourcing, Inc., a fair trade apparel organization, Dr. Burt Goldberg, professor of biochemistry at NYU, and Tony Machacha, Associate for National Immigrant Farming Initiative of Heifer International.

Each brought their incredibly unique experiences and words of wisdom to those who attended, resulting in a truly inspirational event. We thank them endlessly for the work that they do and the time they took out to speak with us.

We will be raising the issue of global hunger yet again with our HUNGER BANQUET that will take place next semester, so keep an eye out for signs and information!
