FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What do you guys do?

We build or rehabilitate buildings throughout NYC and New Jersey, with a focus on creating low-cost housing for those in need. For more information, see the "About the Club" page.

Are you guys the same Habitat from my high school?

Most likely... yes! Habitat for Humanity is an international organization that provides low-cost housing to individuals throughout the world. We are only the NYU Campus Chapter of Habitat - there are many, many more!. For more information, you can visit Habitat's website.

How do I join?

You can come to one of our general meetings or join the listserv. Joining the listserv means you will receive e-mails about upcoming builds and events.

Building? What do I need?

Nothing! No previous experience, big muscles, or even a hammer is required. Everyone is welcome to join... although we do recommend that you have a pair of old jeans, sturdy shoes, and an old t-shirt for builds.

I don't know... am I strong enough to build?

The physical fitness test for entry is as follows: 65 push-ups in a minute, at least 13 pull-ups and the ability to run a five-minute mile.

... Not really. If you're strong enough to lug a textbook to school and back, you're strong enough for a build. We won't push you any further than you want to go. If you get tired on a build you can take a break and talk to some of your fellow tired Habitat members. Think of it as getting a workout while doing a great thing for humanity.
