Your Black Radiant Beauty
By Angeline Chan, Events Coordinator
There you are
As I gaze ahead of me
I look and I find myself squinting
I strain my eyes to read the dusty chalk covered black board
The blackboard is enormous in size
Bordered by wood
Covered in chicken scratch in a variety of colors
One section of you is illegible
I can hardly read what you're trying to shout out at me
However, I do know that you're trying to send me a message
A message that I'm trying my utmost hardest to interpret
I look again
I see that you're injured
I see many scratches on your hard outer surface
I see many layers of dusty chalk writings atop each other
On you once smooth, clean beautiful skin
I notice you want to shed off that hideous outer coat
Almost like a person shedding off dead skin cells after a really bad sunburn
I walk closer towards you
I want to reach out and touch you
But I stop myself
Your appearance gives me uneasiness
I'm afraid that if I touch you
I'll get a contagious disease
And have my skin turn white just like yours did
I pull myself back
I look at you and think
<<Silence>>
Finally, I decide you would look so much nicer when you have on your birthday suit
I walk over to the sink
I reach in and take out a wet sponge
I begin to cleanse your dirt inhabited self
And very slowly
Along with the seconds of the ticking clock
Your once beautiful self emerges again slowly
Like a butterfly exploding out of a cocoon
