  Hex and the City: (cont'd)
Doug's Zagat Survey of Rating the Sexes

by Douglas Choi, Staff Columnist

for an entire group of girls to unanimously agree on which NYU Asian male stud has a face most likely to launch a thousand ships. Five pretty boys singing to teenage girls are more in sync than girls trying to make such a decision. In addition, what is the basis of guidelines for the ranking system: looks, personality, charm, respectability, sense of fashion, earning potential, intelligence, or girth?

Is movement up and down this list by the participants stagnant or is it fluid like the RPI ranking system implemented for NCAA college basketball? The fluidity of movement up and down this list is important as exemplified by the following story:

Last semester, when I proudly displayed my long, flowing and somehow curly hair all around Manhattan and some parts of Queens, I got off the subway and waited in a massive crowd of people, all eagerly waiting to exit the underground labyrinth through the one turnstile available to us. When it was finally my turn to go, this trifling child attempted to cut in front of me until his father's hand reached out to stop him by saying, "Son, let the woman go first."

Despite having worn a dress only once previously in my life, it felt rather embarrassing to be mistaken as a woman, and along with the added pressure of my father coming into town to visit and the fact that my hair continually went inside my mouth whenever I brushed my teeth, I eventually conceded and chopped off my locks. Hypothetically speaking as if I were on the list, if the list was drafted before my haircut, then I would have been placed lower on the list. If the list was stagnant, unable to be updated, and thereby does not allow for fluid movement up and down the list, then my new developments could not be documented and I would be forever stuck on the lower echelon undeservingly. Of course, I'm basing all of this on the wrong assumption that I am even on the list.

Creating a list that catalogs members of the opposite sex in descending order of whatever desirability is the exact inhuman, superficial, and pig-headed act for which women often berate men.

Since listing one as better than other without reason proves to seem rather half-assed, to just outright claim that Britney is better than Christina Aguilera, or vice versa, doesn't make sense. In response, I suggest we implement a new system for rating men and women that does not blindly accept that #1 is just better than #2. Using Zagat Survey as a foundation (their New York restaurant guide sold more copies than the Bible last year), I will provide a blueprint for this new system, to be called henceforth as the Dougo Survey.

Instead of the four categories of Food, Décor, Service, and Price, the Dougo Survey will feature Looks (L), Personality (P), Appeal (A), and Maintenance (M). All will be graded on a 0 to 3 scale, with the final average for each category multiplied by ten to create a 0 to 30 scale. Looks and Personality is obvious, but I feel Appeal and Maintenance may cause confusion, so let me explain. Appeal is something about the girl that can't be measured in Looks and Personality, like if she freely and frequently uses her Platinum Card at Victoria's Secret, that's a 3; however, if she smells raunchy
